farty smell

oh well only had my 1st washes on in about 4 years and our lass says the spare bedroom smells a mixture of farts and yeast :lol: :lol:

must be the vodka star because the kale dint smell last week

It normally Kale that does that. Didn't know VS did too!

But a vigorous ferment does have a life of it's own.
I regard them all as "nasal joys"!
It is when they are abscent that I get concerned. :lol:

I would check that the kale wash hadn't pooped out over the floor, behind the worksurface or wherever.

i put my fvs inside inside a plastic back just incase this happens.

the kale is fine only used 4kg sugar and the airlock isnt going mad just lets a rattle off every now and then.
i did a test over weekend and its down to 1.020ish so not far off.

Nice, but while vodka star has a smell of its own, it must be more offensive to Ladies than my nose can detect.

Edit LOL, the kale is on week 2 and we're blaming the vodka star on week 1??

I would think the farty smell is actually the carbon dioxide. Kale (funnily enough) has a cabbagey farty smell - Much more farty than just carbon dioxide

i will have a sniff 2night and see which 1 it is.

i think its VS as the kale dint smell when i had the lid off the other day to take a reading.

i think the smell has died down since the other day. took the cap off the air lock and it just smells like when i used to do cider kits back in the day thats for VS

kale smells the same not as strong both coming along nicely to start building my stock up :D
