For the novice.....

Alcotec Vodka Star - use half a packet (30-33g) per 5kg of sugar in a 25L wash.
Usually ferments to 10%abv in 7 to 8 days.

Makes a decent neutral with a mild vodka aroma.

No carbon guff, or filtering needed.
I strip it, then do a spirit run - comes out bang on!

Once you get a decent stock built up, you can try a kale wash - actually comes out a bit more neutral, with less of a vodka flavour.

I’m using a T500, so I need about 3 washes of 10% to give me enough strip to do one spirit run.
Normally end up with 15 - 20 bottles of quality 43% neutral.

HTH. 8-)

FYI - brew2bottle do a 10 pack of Alcotec Vodka Star for £19.95.

£2.95 delivery, or free if you order £50+ :)

Not bad for 20 guaranteed washes!

Other types of wash, ie kale, will definitely give you a purer neutral, and they don’t need carbon clearing/filtering either - BUT - if you don’t mind a mild vodka flavour, and you want a numpty technique, then the Vodka Star is the way to go.

Like I said, once you’ve a few bottles in the fridge, you can play / experiment with other techniques.

This is also another decent option, and real easy to cook up.

In the past I substituted some rye flour because I like the taste. Although it was intended for a light whisky it can also make an acceptable grain based vodka.

I never drink "neutral", I do drink vodka - but I like it to have some flavour left in it. Real neutral for me is just a base spirit for infused products.
