Post by jacquie » Tue Aug 20, 2019 11:07 pm

The general consensus is that 48 hour yeast product tastes like shit. :o
For a first rum, go off at a tangent and try this, it is even tastier than the DB's!
You will have to scale it down.

thought that be the case with the 48 - guess a bit a patience is worth it - thanks for the rum pointer and are dead yeast cells absolutely necessary

No, dead yeast is just a bonus for the live ones.
Canabalistic little critters!
Try a handful of Sultanas.

My standard Rum recipe is...
25ltr fermenter.
3ltrs molasses (black strap) they feed horses with it
so an Animal feed shop. Its about 45% fermenable sugar.
3 kg Demerrara (good effort Gaz) sugar
A handful chopped boiled Raisins (nutrient)
60g Allinsons bread yeast.
It makes a tasty Rum.
Mirror-signal-manoeuvre.

I have molasses waiting on a fermenter Gaz. I've found a variety of recipes but yours looks good and simple. Think we may have found a winner!

48 hour turbo and similar were developed for making fuel ethanol, not for drinking stuff.

They have a LOT of "nutrients" so the fermentation can be so fast. The combination of leftover chemicals and stressed yeast (think bodybuilder on steroids) don't work out too well for our purposes.

ps GIT is better than GTI
Slowly slowly, catchy funky

Don't stress the yeast
