Beware of dead yeast!

Post by StillDave » Wed Sep 04, 2019 3:59 pm

Bought some DADY a week or so ago, 500g for £12, which I thought wasn't too bad, as I wanted to see if a different yeast made any difference to the end product flavour wise, as well as seeing if it fermented any quicker, as my Allinsons bread yeast is taking anything up to 3 weeks to finish.
Anyway, long story short......it was dead! Made a starter as per usual with tomato paste, but an hour later nothing was happening. left it overnight, still nothing. Bought some kale and tried another starter with that.....nada. So contacted the seller (bought it on ebay) and within hours, had a full refund, no questions asked, so that was good. Didn't feel like trying another bag from same seller, so it's back to Allinsons for the time being.

Dead yeast is food to live yeast ! Boil it and add a spoonful to new brew.
Or was it contaminated in some way so trow in the bin??

Just a thought, could there be some change in your water?
