Ikea Korken

Post by piglets » Thu Jun 13, 2019 8:57 pm

On the European mainland the Ikea has some nice, swing-top bottles for decent prices. Nice bottles to store and present your end product in, decent quality and easy to re-use. A 1L costs for example €1.29,-, pretty decent if you ask me.

Guess the Ikea is in the UK aswell; might be a good tip for most of the forum members/readers.

That's not a bad price. Be careful that might be a rubber seal.

got a couple of those for my essence flavoured neutral. Not noticed any flavour issue from the seal, as it doesn't actually come into contact with the spirit, and even the tiny amount of seal that's exposed to vapour in the airspace seems to be a "non-issue"........

Equally, it depends on the quantity made. The prestige essences make 750ml so just as easy to use a wine bottle and reusable "T" cork. Then it depends on whether the essence chosen makes up to 1 litre or 2.25 litres, 1 litre will fit into the IKEA bottles easily. For Essencia and StillSpirits essences that are designed to make 2.25 litres, I have some old half gallon DJ's for that. I use thin polyethylene foam sheet cut to make a seal in the cap - again, it doesn't contact the liquid at all and there seems to be no flavour issue from vapour contact..........

That is a good point it is noncontact.

I made some accidentally fantastic whiskey by leaving it in oak too long in the 1L job. I guess it just worries me that it makes the rubber of very funny colour.....why??????

Going off at a tangent here;
Some might recall my concerns about Bondit HA6 silicone, which I have used for years as a liquid extrudable gasket for distilling?
I have been trialling it alongside, (and DON'T laugh),{gaza,I mean you!} Soudal Silirub AQ.
Silirub seems to be winning.
Both are harmless, but (maybe a newer formulation?) HA6 keeps softening and becoming sticky.
If I reach a conclussion, I will stick it in the Build forum.

Not as groanable as a sticky gasket...
