Increasing Size Of T500 Column Boiler ???

Post by StillBrewing » Thu Jun 13, 2019 12:49 pm

I run a T500 but thinking about increasing the boiler size.

Would I be able to convert a stainless steel keg and just tri clamp the column to the top of it once modifications have been made. Is it as simple as that or does column size dertermine what sized boiler is to be used.

I don't want to start a complete new build, I would rather just carry on with what I am using. But, a bigger boiler will save me a lot of hassle.

Cheers.

Depending on your heat source and power control you may find it hard to keep distillation slow enough while not ending up with insanely long runs.

I can see the merit of your plan as a half way step to gradually further upgrading. I'm sure on the old forum someone did similar and slowly added plates and windows etc and ended up with a complete still dragon setup.

The short answer is yes.

You will need one of this forum's favourite power controllers from eBay for about £10. You will also need a water regulator to find the sweet spot on the column. You might also find it doesn't save you any time because of the extended time it will take to boil the additional volume.

By far the quickest and easiest way to speed up a T500 would be to buy a small chest freezer! . That way you could fill it with the still with 25L of strip - boom straight into spirit run. Double delivery. Same sort of run time.
To Gin-finity and beyond !

I had a small chest (and the rest) freezer. I got rid of her. It cost me about half a million. Money well spent.
