Cocktails

Post by captainfog » Mon Oct 07, 2019 7:37 pm

Not sure where to start this thread so feel free to move it to a more suitable section of the forum.

Over the past 6 months I've really started enjoying mixing drinks. There are many hundreds of recipes out there and I'm slowly working my way through them all... hic!

Here are some recent favourites.... as you can see I really like Campari....

The Tarzan:

1oz (30ml) Gin
1oz (30ml) Campari
1.5oz (45ml) Pineapple Juice
.5oz (15ml) Simple Syrup
.5oz (15ml) Lemon Juice
Top Soda Water

Shaken and Poured over ice and then topped up with soda water.

Holland Razorblade:

2oz (60ml) Genever
.75oz (22.5ml) Lemon Juice
.75oz (22.5ml) Simple Syrup
Garnish: Cayenne Pepper Powder (I had to sub this out for chilli powder)

Shaken, double strained into a cocktail glass followed by a pinch of chilli powder.

Enzoni:

1oz (30ml) Gin
1oz (30ml) Campari
.75oz (20ml) Lemon Juice
.5oz (15ml) Simple Syrup
4 or 5 Seedless Grapes

Add the ingredients into a shaker and muddle, then shake and double strain over ice.

Strawberry Negroni:

1oz (30ml) Strawberry Gin Liqueur
1oz (30ml) Campari
1oz (30ml) Sweet Vermouth

Built in glass, large rock of ice added and stirred till chilled and diluted.

Wow!
I had forgotten Campari.
I used to drink lots of it.
Can't remember how it disappeared from my life?

Someone PM'd me asking what simple syrup is. I tried to reply but for some reason my message won't leave the outbox. Anyway, it might be useful explaining it in this thread in case anyone else is wondering. This is what a wrote:

it's just a sugar syrup. You can make it yourself by sticking a 1:1 mixture of sugar and water into a pan and bringing it the boil and stirring while it simmers till all the sugar has dissolved. Or you can buy it at your local supermarket. https://www.sainsburys.co.uk/shop/gb/gr ... gomme-25cl

I tend to make my own. If you store it the fridge it'll keep for about a month, if you add a dash of vodka to your syrup it should keep for 6 months. The shop bought stuff seemingly lasts forever (I found a half full bottle in the back of my drinks cupboard recently that must be at least a year old and it was absolutely fine).

You should buy a bottle next time you're near an off-licence or in a supermarket. It's relatively inexpensive too. A lot of people really hate Campari, it's a strong flavour, for sure, especially in a Negroni (the standard one, not the recipe above) which has a really bitter kick to it.

For those unsure of Campari then try The Tarzan, it's a phenomenally well balanced cocktail and I can see why it's considered a modern classic. Really tasty. Less sweet, but still utterly delicious is the Enzoni which is probably my new favourite drink.

Man-flu and a day of hot todddies?
I maybe pissed as hell, but will I remember in the morning?

It's not quite the same as email. It sits in the outbox until the user reads it.
To Gin-finity and beyond !

Hard to beat a Lynchburg Lemonde...

Double measure of Bourbon
Single measure of Triple Sec
Juice of half a lemon
Top off with white Lemonade

I do mine in the trusty old Mason jar.

Amazing summer cocktail.
Something... something inspiring and Signature related.

I remember being young enough to buy chartreuse, for cocktails, but stopping.
If only my life was not so short, and my liver so small. :)

Green chartreuse was brutal, I can see why it is a rarity nowdays.

I vaguely remember blue curacao, vodka and then champagne, would be the other fizzy stuff now as "pan galactic gargle blaster" of hitchhikers guide to the galaxy fame.
Slowly slowly, catchy funky

Don't stress the yeast
