Off topic

Post by Pinky » Sat Oct 12, 2019 9:03 am

A gentle reminder.

If you want to go off topic please start another thread - start it with a quote if you like.

"Wine - dried apple powder" thread is currently discussing BEER & HOP ADDITIONS. That is not even close.

It is not the admins job to tidy stuff up - that will only cause confusion. Not to mention bad tempered Admins.
Keeping on topic will help us all with "hmmm, I read that on the forum somewhere"

You know who you are .. and I include you in that Mash 8-)

Going off topic used to really get my Goat. Not that I have any. Goats, that is.
On a previous forum I used to spend lot's of time trying to keep it tidy, moving posts and suchlike.
I never wished to be a librarian.

And I have to disagree, it is the job of admins., to tidy up.
Janitorial duties, sweeping up the shit!
And I have been a bad tempered admin. since becoming one. :)

Now, in defence of my friend, mash, he taught me that people talking, even out of turn or in the wrong place, was better than people not talking.

I too would like to see posts in the correct threads.
I do not have the time to move them all. But would rather people spoke than didn't.
If you have time and wish to step up, PM me, I might find you a job.

So, this Pinky geezer is a little harder than me, let's try and keep him sweet?

.. Another thought. We used to have an "off topic" emoji. Wherezitgone?

If we all called it out, by replying with that, it would make it a shared task.

I know I am an offender, happy to be reminded and tidy my shit up.

I can see both sides of the coin.
On one side I've an attention span like a squirrel so hard no to go off topic when your mind wanders, on the other I was part of an other forum thats gone the way of the dodo and it was a great place to hang out and shoot the shit, noone cared about off topic or even topics at times. Was a place I really enjoyed hanging at but the only problem with it was that you could not find stuff on it as everyone was talking about just about anything in any thread.
maybe a fancy Google search button would help mitigate that, it seems to be more accurate that the build in php search option?

My guess is that the way people use everything from facebook, through twitter to Tinder means that order is lost.
I don't use any of the above, maybe I should have been a librarian?
You make some sense there Swedish.

Would a chat room feature help? Then all the inane babble could go on there!

That is a valid point.
Currently a lot of the site is inane babble.
Now, just supposing that I could persuade our WONDERFUL techy bloke (he knows that I am now applying the butter) to build it in to the site, if possible, do you, and possibly someone like jacquie feel that you might step up and moderate such a thread/ feature?
That might sound shit and patronising, but is not intended to be seen that way.
I would just love to get some females into positions of button pushing power on this website.
Tell us what you can give.
We can accomodate.
