T500, Alembic & Sputnik

Post by StillBrewing » Tue Nov 05, 2019 12:46 pm

At the moment I have a few litres of a gin essence steeping. This will be going into my Airstill once its done.

Using the Airstill for recipe development but had a thought. The Sputnik is used within the Airstill but does anybody use a bigger one in the T500 boiler with the Alembic setup for making bigger quantities of gin.

Cheers

Would it work Gazza. I mean if using a power controller to slow it down and using a bigger sputnik for plain bots.

Surely it will just be a bigger version ???

yes it would work.
Consider: recipes will not scale up nTIMES volume. AND will be different in a larger boiler.
Make sure it doesn't boil dry.
You will need longer legs to make sure its a snug fit, or perhaps bolt 3 catches onto the underside of the lid. 3 stainless offset washers might be a easy fix.

I have to say I am with Gazza 2.5l per run - run it twice, probably not worth the effort.

Hmm, food for thought there, thank you.

Maybe that's my problem, I haven't been running my first few experiments twice. I assume first run is taking the lot and then proofing down, running again and taking cuts. Air cuts as usual overnight and then blend ??.

Got a lot to learn here, thanks for the input.

These are cheap and brill use one for the AS sputty.
Cut the handles off,buy some ss threaded rod and bolts(x3) easy to level.
Attach and scale up your recipes.
Have fun, this way it is only gonna cost you a few quid to try...

Thank you Gazza, much appreciated.

Mentioned to the wife about your recipe for the Turkish Delight Gin last night. You should have seen her eyes light up

Definitely going to give that a try if I get that reaction from her ;)

Dunno how long you have been married, but if you can still make her eyes light up, I'm guessing not too long!

Still in its infancy Robert. Been with the girl for 20 years and married for ten. So much for a one night stand
