Dip wit DJ moment - suggestions?

Post by jacquie » Fri Nov 08, 2019 7:25 pm

Ok so I ran out of bungs for demijohns so have been using inverted champagne corks and sealing wax - today I thumped one too hard and now it's stuck inside the dj - spent ages trying to get it out - totally frustrated by it is there some clever method I'm missing cos I really really want to get it out cos it's annoying me sitting in the dj staring at me all smug and cork like - cheers - jack :x

copper wire.
Make a loop of copper wire inside the DJ. Turn the DJ on its side and shake till the cork is inside the loop of wire. Gently pull it up into the neck of the DJ.
If you can't pull it back through pour in hot water first to soften it. Alternatively destroy the cork with a cordless drill (pulling it up into the neck of the DJ with the wire at the same time) so you can drill it to bits.

 EMPTY out any contents you wish to keep before trying the above!!!!

I also sometimes use inverted Champagne corks, and once lost one inside a DJ.
I mostly filled the DJ with water, dropped a couple of loops of string in and fiddled around with a Fondue fork to catch the cork in the right orientation and pull it into the neck, where a regular cork screw was used to pull it out.
You couldn't make this stuff up!

Simply break the Demijohn with a heavy object, to retrieve your cork.
Something... something inspiring and Signature related.

You can use:
String with a knot in. Insert knot. Shake Cork to neck. Pull string. Works well with wine bottles.
Ditto hanky.
Kebab skewer. Stab it.
My favourite is stiff plastic packing tape [box strapping ].
Fold 1meter in half. Push the folded end in first. Sliding the two tape 'legs' against each other creates a loop. Snare Cork and pull.

Gaz might be familiar with this method :D Was popular with car 'enthusiasts' :D
To Gin-finity and beyond !
