I/we discussed somewhere else that I'm lucky to have 24/7 consistent temp. In a shed I'd be trying to keep temps consistent, hence the bath idea, but yeah I hear you on the disadvantages.

This is the results. The temps are stable.

I have tried immersed fermenters (bain marie stylie) many years ago. IMO PITA. Condensation, poor circulation and limescale put me of.

Silly stroke thing means I can't find the name of the bath in my head, but I'm sure it works.

edit : bain marie, I got there :)

Single electric blanket fits perfect.

Ambient 12c controller positions
1 = Wash steady @ 19c.
2 = Wash steady @ 22c.
3 = Wash steady @ 24c (and rising)

I appreciate that this doesn't take account of yeast phase and lid position does affect temp -best ON tight.

A couple of round black catering trays (£3) have made brilliant shelves for bottle conditioning beer. Full 23l batch tits perfect!

The way that some of you treat your washes, you are coming across as really caring peoples.

Just re-read this. I have done that in the past. In fact i am running my wine like that.

The idea here is slightly different, fermenter wrapped in leccy blanket inside a trashcan. Do you think this would need a blanket outside the trashcan too?

An 80l bin should do it. I found the cheapest was Wickes £12

However... Do you bottle beer? If so get a 100/110l, it has enough room for 2nd ferment of 40 bottles.

Ferment on the floor. I lift it out and onto the bench for racking.
