Not after each pass only put in water at start, so my thinking was put in at 50 and with excess water would come out about 40 but it's probably just me not being accurate enough about what's going in, my 3rd batch should be done today so will see how that comes out

I’ve used the essencia filter for a few years now, never heard of this before!

Your not soaking the filters in water before each time you use it are you?

I can’t think of any other explanation, the filters hold a few hundred ml of water once soaked, if you soaked them before each use, that could dilute your product with upto a litre of water.

Your post helps with the miss-understanding.
To my knowledge there is only one type of Essencia, and your description of a ceramic and carbon filter nails it.
Without going into great detail, just consider that anything not caught by an initial pass through a filter is unlikely to be caught on subsequent passes.
The key word here being 'caught', and here we are considering specific molecules and shapes thereof.
Caught in a 'net' of ceramic or the open pores of carbon.
That is kind of simplistic, but I think valid enough.

My cuts make a difference, filtering improves on the cuts.
Glad that you are happy with the result.

I do not understand your strength/dilution issues, maybe it was water left in the filters?
Temperatures would have a much lower impact.
You do have a lid on the Essencia?
Not implying anything, but these days I need reading glasses to read a hydrometer!

Ok sorry for the misunderstanding, I was unsure if essencia do more than 1 filter so just described the one I have, stone - ceramic dome and carbon basket underneath,
3/4 times through meant, I have put it throught the filter 3 or 4 times, you say you only need once but surely the more the better still ? Or have you found if you do your cuts properly you won't notice much difference when filtering.

Perhaps it is just me not being to accurate or the temp difference to the calibrated 20.c alcometer that I'm getting a difference in percentage strength.

Have started drinking it and happy with the result, just thought I'd ask the question

quick question, I am using with essencia filter with the stone and carbon,

'stone and Carbon' what is that?

Is '3/4 times', three quarters of a time through, or 3 or 4 times through?
You only need to do it the once.

Once an Essencia filter is working, which only takes a couple of litres, from a clean out, it will not dick with your percentage.

I always distill at around 45%, and that is how it comes through the filter.

Yes have double distilled and now filtering but I don't understand why it's dropping so much unless the temp messes up the gauge that much ? Is there a calc to take temp into consideration when using the alcometer,
Yes read it needs to be 50 or under, just went for 50 knowing there would be some surplus water already held in the carbon filter which would dilute more, can't filter at less than 40 otherwise you wouldn't ever be able to get back to vodka 40 percent

I don't no what i do is double distille my spirits then put it through my filter then i water it down too 40% try it that way .

Hi, quick question, I am using with essencia filter with the stone and carbon, first batch I put through at about 45/50 but after 3/4 times through before bottling checked proof and says 30.
I thought ok because there may have been surplus water in filter after priming so sent 2nd batch through at 50 and that has come out at 35 3/4 times through.
Now is this just what happens you lose abit of percent, or maybe because the liquid probably isn't 20.c so the alcometer is off ?
