Also think, like others that if
you shut off at higher A.B.V. that
helps. Anyway we want quality not
quantity etc.
Hampk have a lovely Plymouth Gin
recipe which I will post later :) :)

I'm going to try discarding a little more than the 10ml I was slinging at the start of the run, and cut off sooner as well. And I'm also going to leave out anything that might add extra oils (citrus etc) until I have the juniper under control!

Cheers

The idea was to freeze hard, invert and then re-distill the drainings ... but it sounds like thats not gonna work either.

So are we back to gin scented washer fluid 8) (or buy a column)

Mash, I tried freeze-jacking the stuff I made over the weekend. I diluted it right down to about 20%, froze it for 24 hours, and inverted as you suggested. The resultant liquid (roughly 500ml) looks even more louched than before, although I had to leave things to get to work, so couldn't measure ABV etc.

I suspect that I have actually concentrated the oils in the alcohol, rather than stripped them out, although without knowing what ABV I've got out, that's only a theory.

Cheers

Let me know how your freeze-cleanup experiment goes, Mash, though I suspect ther is no easy way to clean the stuff back up again. Definitely less cumin next time - much less!

I think the oils in the first bit is key - but I don't like the idea of removing that flavour....and the original heads had been removed in the spirit run.

After all these experiments, I found cleaning up the spirit again a challenge. Carbon filtering gets say 3/4 of the botanicals flavours out, but back to neutral no way. I am going to test diluting it to 20% and then freezing it out.
