Thought this list might be of use as a starting point to get close to 40%.
But please test your spirit for acuracy before consumption.

1 Litre of spirit.

If 50%Add 250ml Water
If 55%Add 375ml Water
If 60%Add 500ml water
If 65%Add 625ml Water
If 70%Add 750ml Water
If 75%Add 875ml water
If 80%Add 1000ml Water
