I would suggest that if you have run off in excess of 90% then you may safely assume that your still is refluxing, and doing it well. ;)

Robert.

Yes, it can also do this at lower abv's, I am trying to point you in the direction that most here go.
Refluxing is basically just sending lower abv spirit back down the column.
Most here would be happy keeping +90%.
I am, most of the time.
Mash admits to being out of his depth, and not all reflux stills rely on puddles, but he made a valiant effort.

I'm quite happy to be proven wrong on that thought, so don't hold back.

My Amphora is a reflux and I haven't yet, ever, managed to get it to perform the same way twice. There are a lot of reasons why, not the least is the viability of the boiler charge.

I probably didn't help, having never run one.

I know that I'm the only one on here with a still like mine and only I can run it.
But a lot of people on here run T500's, if I keep my questions on the running of those
I can extrapolate that to the running of mine.

I'm sorry if I seem to be causing confusion, you'all are a lovely bunch on here and I'm sure you'll forgive me.

Regards, Marc.

Yup Gaza that’s pretty much exactlly what I do

@Duffer there’s a cooling coil at the top of the column which causes reflux...the top pipe then directs the coolant to the condenser

Oh, so it goes up the condenser, through the tube to a coil...then where?

Either way vapor will pass through the botanical's at the top.

Anyway forget gin at moment, I'm just going for neutral as a base for future gin.

Can anyone answer my original questions?

Regards, Marc.

Here's the still head.

Help me out here guys, but I don't think you can do this.

Full reflux is for purity.
Your gin still is designed for that - gin - by passing the vapours through the bots and then condensing then. Not reflux.

In my thinking, reflux is a process where height, temp and boil are in balance in the column and create a 'puddle'. You then take you spirit from that 'puddle' and condense it.

I have never run such a still so my knowledge is theoretical.

Or put another way. I think you have a column, not a reflux column.
