I agree whole heartedly Pie, We can, and so we do.
And if someone has a different take, well that is also good.
When they finally shoot me for being old and decrepit, I may stop trying to say that there are always more ways than one.
I have always hated rules.
I dislike more the people who state that there is only one way to do something.
Sure, somethings are fairly obvious, others leave room for experimentation.

Easydrinker. Myself and SWMBO both love our gin so I am looking to make something we can both enjoy. How I get to the end result isn't as important as how it tastes.

I've always enjoyed experimenting with my home brew and am now doing the same with distilling

Tend to agree with you - I think a good rule of thumb is to think of Juniper, Coriander and Angelica as the holy trinity of gin botanicals and like you said a good neutral base.

The only two/three ingredients that I consider needed are neutral spirit, Juniper and Corriander.
Other flavours may add a little something, but don't send me off on one, as poncey gins are one topic that gets right up my nose.
Are you striving for Gin, or a gin based/infused drink?

Yes orris powder is fine.

This and angelica are mandatory if you are looking to keep your flavours... By that I mean - not fade.

Bitter orange peel is difficult to get online. I managed to get some in my local HBS. Evidently it is a ingredient for Belgium beers

I am looking to make some of my own gin so I may borrow this recipe (I'll give it back when done although I may end up with some adjustments to make it more personal!).

The only question I have at this stage is regarding the Orris Root. I have only been able to find this powdered. Will this be suitable? If so, would I just sprinkle it on top of the other botanicals (they will be in my sputnik)?

Oh, and there is another - where would I get bitter orange peel? I can only find one source - justingredients.co.uk and it seems a little expensive when P&P is brought into the equation!

My last big batch of Juniper only "A la Odin" stew and still, is still awaiting drops of other essential oils.
