I only played around with this on the T500 for a few weeks before I got rid of it - so I don't have any hard data, a few things to think about.
1. As you reduce the power the cooling temp needs to go up to maintain output. each different power level will have a different cooling temp sweet spot.
2. I have tried ultra low power heads removal - it works, but is really painfully slow - best i got was about 8% heads. I now get between 10-15% so it is not worth the effort in my opinion - I do still run at a lower power when removing heads.
On my VM still, I take heads off at 650w, and run the hearts at 1450w.
