Frank,

8 kG of Dextrose is equivalent to about 7.1 kG of ordinary sugar.

With the ordinary sugar your start SG would have been 1.109.

So by using the calc -- 1.109-0.988 x 129 = 15.6%.

Sounds about right to me.

CORRECTION.....sorry, in the previous email I meant the sg now reads at about 988 (ie one \'mark\' less than 990 on my hydrometer)or possibly slightly lower but still would like to know if this is \'ok\'. BTW, I \'foolishly\' didn\'t take a reading at the start (but will for sure next time)

Hi I fermented using 8kg dextrose and Classic turbo yeast in 25 litres. It bubbled for 8 days (including days 2 and 3 where I had to cool it down as the wash temp was around 30C whilst air temp mid-high 30s). Anyway its stopped bubbling \'yesterday\' and the sg now reads at about 910 or possibly slightly lower! I\'ve checked directly in the wash AND using a sample in a container and spun off air bubbles from the hydometer etc. Wash temp is 22C and I checked the hydometer calibration = 1.000 using water. All I read says \'about 990\' is the desired sg at finish, so I\'m wondering what\'s going on here. Any clues??? I\'m really keen on distilling soon

Well for info, the table for conversions that I use comes from one of the home brew sites, it\'s proved itself to be reasonably accurate over time - if anyone wants a copy, then as usual PM me an email address and I\'ll send you a copy.
It\'s a .xls document and it opens and views fine with Open Office if you don\'t have MS Office/Excel...
It tells me that for 14% ABV the drop from start to finish needs to be 103/104 points (might be a little out but not far). I\'d guess than unless you\'ve got access to kit like a gas chromatagraph or other industry standard testing kit, then you have to rely on crunching the numbers and using the cheaper, less accurate type hydrometers (if you look up the price of accurate/certified versions you\'ll know the difference).
Just my couple of cents worth.....

Hi, again! Forget the above request Daft Arse has been measuring things wrong. All is well. Wash on the 990 and have added the turbo clear. so will leave that to do its job and take it from there Cheers Short

Hi Guys I have the same problem now.I used tripple distill for the first time. This is only my second wash and it was bubbling away for 9 days. It slowed down yesterday and stopped last night. Today nothing so I thought it had run the course. Checked it a few mins ago and it is sitting at 1.000 on top of the yellow band. Gave it a stir and it gurgled for a bit and smelled very yeasty. The temp has been 20 to 22c. Should I just leave it a few days or add a bit of sugar. Any advice appreciated.Just checked the alcohol content and I am not getting a reading it floats below zero so to my novice eye it look a dud. THX Short

I would suggest stopping at about 650 ML check the ABV and the smell. It\'s a little while since I used an Air Still but I think your looking for somethig around the 60-65% ABV.

If my assumption of 1.080 sg start was right you will have an ABV of 11.4%

Assuming your wash started somewhere around 1.080 sg 0.995 is an ok finish sg so if it\'s definately stopped, fine it and run it.

Help! My ferment using ss triple distilled has stopped after 5 days. Sg is around 995. I have tried to kick start with more yeast, kept temperature around 22C. Even given a good old stir. Nothings changed. Can I distill from this? Or any other ideas?
