Being a pure Whiskey snob I would never consider tap water for my a wash filtered or not. I do have the advantage in that my house's water supply is fed from a bubbling spring that remains at a constant and brain freezing 2*C all year round. The pipes that carry the water to the house do occasionally freeze in the winter and then I am forced to collect water directly at the spring so it's not all roses.
I see no reason unless you are producing your hooch on a near industrial scale of using spring water from your local Spar or supermarket [make sure it is bona-fide spring water and not mineral water i.e tap water] I have seen 5 ltrs of Scottish spring water in Tesco for 65p. Not a high price for high quality high purity glacial water!

Ultimately, it doesn't say anything about removing calcium and magnesium salts both of which can give a harsh tasting distillate, so RO water is the easiest way ahead.

Just that if youre on a water meter, its rather wasteful. Of 100% of water in to an RO filter you get between 20 and 25% out as RO water the rest goes down the drain as waste.

Im having to work out about moving my RO filter and see if I can run it on harvested rain as the f*****s have installed a water meter in the last few weeks.

I believe that this is why my neutral is now about as "clean" as I can get it.

Your water has chloromine? Ouch! I've heard it's lethal to houseplants.

I think they use the word chloromine so as to get away with adding ammonia to drinking water.

An RO filter should get rid of it.

I use an RV water filter to filter water for making beer like this one.... http://www.amazon.com/Camco-40043-TastePURE-Flexible-Protector/dp/B0006IX87S. I then have to use campden tablets to neutralize the chloramine in the brewing water before mashing in the grains.

Good idea.

They look alarmingly like your basic 1/4 inch pipe fridge filters.

I have seen them 2 for 8 quid, but the ones above I have used and a are decent quality.

You would need the filter, a self cutting tap, some 1/4 inch plastic pipe, and an adaptor for the self cutting tap to 1/4 inch fitting.

Just my two pence worth.

Well been using the filter in earnest this weekend and must say it's worth every penny so much quicker easier and cheaper too

Purely taste mate getting rid of chlorine etc
Probably ott but I know a lot of brewers and distillers make a big thing about water source or treatment so figured it can't do any harm

Like a good few on the forum I have been Brita filtering water for washes but it is awful slow and gets through the cartridges at an alarming rate. Not cheap

Spotted this on eBay and took the plunge

Arrived today and fitted no problem much faster and should do 60 plus washes or 6 months on one cartridge

Certainly seems to work ok.
