Savor: Next time, take a specific gravity reading before you pitch your yeast (should read around 1.080 - 1.070) and then daily. Depending on various factors the SG will drop daily. It could take as little as a few days or even two weeks. Again depending on what you start with, temp. etc.Keep a record so you can compare to subsequent batches. A pattern will develop which will help with final product consistency.

A starting SG above 1.080 in a sugar wash indicates too much sugar. Back it off. Less than 1.070 and your going through the effort without the return.

Day 5 and it's still bubbling away like a good one if I dropped the hydrometer in right now it would look like a Boye on the sea lolololol. Thanks for the replies guys

it may get to 990 or it may stop a little 'short of that' but.... it'll be finished fermenting when the FG is constant over a few days.....regardless, I'd recommend leaving it for two weeks at least....

BTW its mainly the yeast used (and how little it is stressed during fermentation) that is the major component in the pleasant or otherwise smell.

Hi savor

I found my first one took 8 days to finish, but I also think the fish tank heater helped me as there was no temp swing through the whole process. Once the sg reaches 0.990 it's ready to go.

Update so now it's been brewing away for four days and no signs of slowing lol......anyone any experience of how long this super brew takes to slow down and stop???.

One thing I notice is that the smell from it is really really pleasent The wife's very keep o. That as she says the smell of brewing wash makes her want to heave.

Well TPW on 5kg of sugar over 25LTR of water using allisons yeast and it's buzzing away nicely......I'm amazed at how much this doesn't smell??? I'll keep you all informed how it goes.

I'm three days in now and its still fizzing away like the first day I put it on so that must be a great result so far. Updates to follow

The Tomato Paste Wash recipe is somewhere else on the site but me being the unprepared poster as I am have not got a link at hand lol
