Half the tumbler full - And a few bits of pipe if it comes to hand. Once the bottom has a good cover, you can dispense with the rings - they really are superfluous.

Hi, Been looking into adding pennies to my air still instead of the ceramic rings but I'm not sure how many to add. I've heard a handful but that can vary of course. What do people recommend? Thanks

Welcome to the forum Fjorda....don't worry to much about "how many to add" any copper in the boiler will help....pennies/copper pipe rings/flat...it'll all help.

There's no set amount as long as you have some copper in the still. ;) throw in the ceramic rings also...not going to harm anything.

are copper, use a magnet to check.
Some of the guys told me to cover to bottom.
I didn't have enough to do that, so have
about a dozen coins. I also use the ceramics,
they clean up ok in coke as do copper coins. :)
