On the prompting of one of the blokes I meet through work, he happened to mention that he's a bit of a "tart" when it comes to his drinks.
He likes "Bailey's".
So I thought I'd have a try.
It's not really a recipe per se, just using the recommended amounts and flavourings from the SS range.
A bottle of the "Irish Cream" flavouring, which is added to the suggested 500mls of 40% spirit. Then the "Cream Liqueur" pack, which seems to be a bit like "coffee mate" and sugar, judging from the pack ingredients. The "cream liqueur" pack is gently whisked into 250mls of warm water (I actually just put the kettle on, then when it was part way there, I measured out the 250mls of water into a glass jug, the water then being poured from the jug into a large glass mixing bowl. Then I just fired up the electric whisk and started pouring the cream liqueur poweder into it whisking all the time). It all mixed in well.
Now the instructions say that you're supposed to them mix the alcohol, flavouring and mixed up cream liqueur mix together and top up to 1125mls with water, except when I'd mixed the spirit, flavour and "cream", according to my measuring jug (2litre plastic from the HBS) it was already at 1200mls, so I just rinsed the 1 x 750ml and 1 x 375ml bottles and poured it in.
So both bottles are now stoppered and sitting in the fridge to cool.
The tiny bit that was left in the jug was poured into the usual place i.e. my gob!
Now it looks right in the bottle i.e. the correct consistency and colour, and the taste of the little bit I tried, seemed to taste right as well - so while I haven't given it a "good tasting too" yet, it's looking like it's not a bad copy of Baileys or maybe Carolannes or something like that.
Apart from the seemingly good result, my only surprise was the cost of the "cream liqueur pack". It was £4.49
The flavouring bottle says that you can use 500mls of cream and 200mls of sugar - by that, I'm presuming that it would either be "single" or "whipping" cream and a jug could/would be used to measure up to the 200mls level with sugar.
I don't yet know which will likely be the best, but at £4.49 for the cream liqueur pack, I'll try this again with cream and sugar, as it's gonna be a hell of a lot cheaper than their powdered stuff.
I'm curious to know if anyone else has tried this range of products and what you thought of them, and how you got on ?
Once my attempt is chilled I'll post a better "report" on what I think of the flavour, consistency, etc. I'm no expert with these kind of products (the genuine article ones) so I can only really say how I find this attempt.
Pip pip!
