@ makum101, I recently bought a bunch of run essences from amazon for the equivalent of 97p a 750ml bottle, shipped. That did include a few discounts for buy two get one free or something.

@ vino-tinto, thanks for that heads up, I hadn't considered oils, If I ever get around to playing with them, then I am forewarned.Ta.

Beware of some of the cheap essences in supermarkets, they are oil based and will not break down in alcohol.
I made a mistake using some orange essence when making Triple Sec, it was OK when I shook it up but when it settled all the oil separated again, making a mess floating at the top.

Yeah. With you on the essential oils. I was just going to substitute the orange first but have you seen the price of tangerine essence... ouch

JD or oak chip/blocks work well I tried putting a bit of crystal malt in too and some sugar. Turned out ok.

If you are looking for inexpensive essences, then that online retailer beginning with A, can be a cheap source of the Prestige range.

I've not tried those, but I have trie some others (Kirsch, bitter almond, Amaretto, almond) and I feel pessimistic that the flavouring for "other uses" are going to make your wife happy. All you have to lose is a bottle of our output and a bit of flavouring.

Ive been doing my own gin in my smart still by adding raw ingredients such as cardamon pods, coriander seds, dried Juniper etc and while it tastes sooo good my wife prefers non flavored 'vodka' (Unflavored spirit just as it comes out) with her coke and lemon. She also likes the odd Jim beam, not that she's an Alchie or owt haha.

Sometimes I find ive only got Gin left (I always make sure I never run out), so Im thinking of going back to the little bottles of Spirit essences for her Bourbon nd maybe gin too but dont want to pay the over inflated price they charge.

Ive done a bit of research and have found two 'non standard' flavorings - Those you put in cakes. & the raw flavoring that vape creators use to make their vape juice. Both suitable for human consumption btw. Anyone tried either of these or anything else I have not come across?
