I think you have to consider what the Brita is intended to do,against what the Essencia,a modified water filter,is intended to do.
You also have to consider the plastics used in the construction of both.
I believe that tapping brita into the search box top right will show you others thoughts on this.

I refill my essencia with the smaller size carbon, from memory the original carbon was noticeably larger, it seems take a little longer to filter with the new smaller carbon but the results are perfect, for me anyway

If you've got a Brita, use it for filtering your proofing water, too much plastic and not enough carbon for my liking.

AM's posts on re-filling are valid.
Especially the fighting your way in to the filter.
I have so far tried two different sizes of carbon,0.4-0.85mm and 0.4-1.4.
For me there is no difference in filtered product.
If there was,it would still not be a big issue as a standard 1.7 litre bag of charcoal is not expensive,so changing one or the other a little more frequently,is not costly.A bag will do quite few refills.

Yes it is! Don't forget to buy the right size carbon so you can refill the cartridge when it needs changing. No point in wasting lots of money on new cartridges.

Good for you As I said, I personally wouldn't have the bottle to use the name of such a legendary moonshiner as my handle because I know there would be some self opinionated
p¥#[k who'd suggest I was comparing myself, as a distiller, to the legend.

We're mostly a friendly lot but there are always the exception(s) who begrudge, bemoan or otherwise entertain themselves at the expense of others.

I, for one, will defend anyone's right to use such a handle, good on you for keeping the old moonshiner's memory going

Popcorn Sutton was a great moonshiner and I've knocked many hours of enjoyment over the past few years from watching the videos he recorded of his last ever runs. They were brilliant

Enjoy it - you'll be fine. I used the teabags for a while and then bought a carbon cartridge EZ filter thingy. Its fine, inexpensive and recyclable.

But beware this is a hobby that bites.... your wallet !

Hi.

I've not used them for a long time..funny thing I was having a tidy up in the outhouse yesterday and found a tube of them....anyway if my memory serves me well...I seem to remember they say their good for around 20/25 liters.....although I'm sure somebody else will state otherwise...

I use to pop mine in a mug and fill with hot water for 5/10mins...it's said to activate the carbon.

Just enjoy yourself...take your time...and welcome to your new hobby....hope you have deep pockets....

hi guys
new on here and probably a silly question .the little filter that comes with the starter kit from lovebrewing how often should you change the filter ,and is it worth filtering twice .im using this kit till i can afford to upgrade .i get payed on Monday and ordering my kit.so hope to start brewing next week
