Fitted a 2KW heater (actually producing 2.4 KW) works fine but ordered a 3KW to try. Higher power purely for initial heat up. Once up to temperature with both pot and reflux column we seem to settle between 1100 and 1600 watts prgressing to the higher temp as we approach tails.

Heating, Electric element on the way ( 2KW)
Element fits in tri-clamp plate threaded 1"BSP
Also found 40 amp SSR power controler for under £10.00. Tried it on 1400 watt heater and could vary power from full down to 160 watts.

I can see a few potential extra bits that'd need sorting, but it does seem to offer all the flexibility to be able to connect up most different arrangements i.e. a pot head, any number of different reflux columns etc.....

Nice.......

I think the opening at the bottom is for the heating element to be fitted with a tri clamp and gasket.

The way energy prices are these days I'd say using gas would probably be more expensive than electric plus you could only use it outdoors and in this part of the world you'd freeze your wobbly bits off doing that. :D
