I wonder if the problem is air. Yeast starts off needing oxygen.

Do you whisk?
Did it go it the fridge straight away?
Is your cold water really chlorinated? or did you use the hot tap?

Did you rehydrate the yeast or sprinkle?
Can you drink your tap water?
Is the inside of your kettle furry?

sat in fermentation fridge at a constant 29c ph about 5.5 tested .
the last kale wash failed as well .
stumped >:(
i am going away today until the beginning of may ,i have made a starter this morning with another 20 grams of yeast and a bit of sugar ,stuck that in it fizzed a lot .
