However this is not a Turbo wash. I don't think it is like a Turbo by name, and in detail.

John you made a good point with yeast strains. The yeast used in a turbo is very specific to the purpose of producing high alcohol results - quickly. It is combined with super nutrient cocktails to assist it - and in some cases, carbon to clear up the waste.

"Turbo" - nah this is a slowbo - Baker's yeast in a pot full of sugar is never going to be quick.

A sugar wine has been around for years. I can claim no credit for this. I'm just re-purpose in it for another use later in life.

I am just interested to see how it will compare against lentil & wheat. I suspect it will be better than lentil, but no quite as good as a wheat wash.

You have started me thinking about better (quality) yeast strains I have to say..............

And for me,the conclusion is,if it works for you, then stick with it,but don't be afraid to try something new.
This must have been stated here before,
I'll get my coat....

Always a bit weird IMO. The tronozymol wash will be exactly the same as a turbo wash, but with slightly different items (only slightly at that) on an ingredients list.

Of course, it would be great to have a full breakdown i.e. X of this, Y of that and Z of the other. Either way, turbo yeast packs are yeast - of a quantity that can start fermenting as soon as the cells of the yeast have rehydrated. The nutrient part is providing all the non-energy part of the food.

This is very similar to making traditional meads. Honey and water don't vary much from sugar and water. Yet people are often surprised how much nutrition is required.

Equally, using a wine yeast, you'd follow the instructions and it can take a few days for the yeast to get to full fermentation, because it needs some air/O2 to multiply to a colony large enough to ferment out the sugars.

The yeast producers for turbo yeast don't generally declare the strain (many of the wine yeasts are just listed by type of product they're used for, rather than the actual strain).

In any case, the same strain can produce different results with side by side trials, as natural products do have a funny habit of producing individual results, even with the tiniest of differences in make up......

People are also often surprised, when they make up a batch of whatever, split it and use different yeasts. The difference in flavour, aroma, alcohol content etc etc......

So no reason why this won't finish completely with little different from a turbo yeast result.

One thing I'd like to know is whether the term turbo has been used for genuine reasons i.e. it's quicker or whether it's quicker because of the amount of yeast used per pack or whether it's just marketing bollocks.........

Personally, while I know I can ferment sugar with just about anything , I like the results I get from Vodka Star so............

Interesting. Have only ever considered it as an ingredient (read nutrient) in washes and wine ferments.

I would think that the manufacturers don't want to reveal the details for commercial reasons However that does hinder users.

It is also the reason I will not use this "as a matter of course" in my wines.

John. I agree and well spotted. This is a 5kg recipe.

I will correct the PDF and replace it.

Vit B1 - I couldn't find a definitive list of the ingredients for trono, so I made sure :D

Epsom salts it a water treatment that I picked up AG brewing and it sort of stuck. Probably should check out its credentials agian.

Not sure how much actual detail is on the tronozymol packs - it's why I like to get hold of one of the Fermaid range for my "complete" nutrients - there's so much more data available about them (probably because they're popular in the US home brew market).

I'm suspecting it shouldn't make much difference, though whether there might be some "carry over" of flavour in the distillate could be a different matter - though WTF, experiment and see eh ! ;D
