the outer pot is 100l, inner pot is 80l, inner pot has 4inch wide row of perforations. easily melt a large batch of chocolate, if you wanted that is lol

I only use it as a boiler / fermenter as I have a 59l ss keg for my pot and VM still heads, did think once I would put a dome on top with a coil attached,

once again thanks for replies.

I quite agree. I think its around 100l so there is room to do stuff.

So I was thinking ALVA controller + inner vessel + lid = mashing. False bottom and pump for sparge/empting.

With the same ALVA controller, remove the inner vessel Swap the lid for a still. BINGO.

Having spent some time in pro kitchens, too me it looks like a very large Bain Marie,
or even something more specialised.

An interesting thing to own,and probably better to adapt as mash boiler and still than the tea urn that I use.

Looking forward to reading your posts in the Build Your Own section here!

Robert.

Looks to me like it's made for a specific job...cooking meat/fish??? were the inner pot keeps everything away from element. There's no need for this if it's a tea urn. ;D

Don't worry about finding an element for it when that time comes, as you can buy bendable ones and make them fit easy...other than the element I can't see anything else to go wrong.

The control knob looks a simple one that could be re-placed.

the temp control goes to 110 C,
Beer 008.jpg

I have had this double boiler a few years now, it was pre used, does not have any brand name or any markings at all,

the well at the bottom is 10 inches in diameter and 5 inches deep.

I attached the legs, maybe why they are not straight lol
