I thought it looked bigger, I did have the same thought about using an end cap. I'm ok at the moment as I've an element on it's way from china. ;)

I bumped this Son of Opus because I'm following in your footsteps by the look of things....(although the boiler has a different top lid) in this photo the element looks bigger then the 2" port that's in these boilers....is it?? whichever way...what element did you run with??

We have had a bit of a play and the results are shown below for the build of our modular pot still head.

The first component that we decided to build was the new shotgun style condenser. The individual parts can be seen in the photo below after machining. All items are 316 stainless steel.

Image

After a bit of TIG welding to assemble them they look like the image below. At this point it is missing the push fit connectors for the cooling pipes.

Image

The next part was the column this is a 1000mm piece of 2" pipe with a pair of weld ferrules 1 at either end only one is shown in the photo the finished item can be seen in the photo of the assembled head.

Image

The next item to be fabricated was the new stainless parrot the component parts are shown in the next two images, the image below shows the reducer ferrule, valve, bar and tube.

Image

The next image is after a bit of pipe bending , some turning and a little welding to create the linking tube and drain.

Image

And finally after some more TIG welding the assembled parrot.

Image

That completed the fabrication of the individual parts and the image below shows the head assembled together + cooling pipes.

Image

The image below shows the new boiler with the element fitted to the bottom tri clover fitting and the column clamped to the top one.

Image

Longer term we plan to build some more parts that can be swapped into the various areas to allow alternative setups to be configured with the components.

Thanks for looking.

Regards
