Hey Aidanmac, are you planning a pot head too. It seems you like your whisky, just wondering why the column?
I've been playing with my pot head recently and really liking some of the results. I think I may be a pot stiller trapped in a gin makers body

Well, for whatever reason, I can see the pictures today.

Nice set up! Good looking parrot but what I'm going to copy is the wood holder you have with the hydrometer and spoon and stuff in it.

(Hit submit because I had to run, now editing the rest of what I wanted to say)

Looks like you have enough room to have a bigger still to go with that size of fermenter and lauter tub. Any plans on expanding?

Keeping my set-up at the olds place for lack of a backyard or garage at my place. Will make sure I take a photo to post here when I'm there on the weekend.
Have had it for 3 or so years now, I used to work at a plumbing store and had been tinkering in homebrew beer since I was 18. I decided to give the whole home made Reflux Still a crack, bought all the copper from work and had a look at a few plans for them online.
$200AUD later I had all the components ready to go and a mate who knew how to weld (sort of/had the gear). In the end it took about 4 hours to build but I was pretty happy with the result, it has a 50mm diameter shaft about 1m high, packed with stainless steel wool with a cut out at the top for the grommet with the thermometer. 50mm short of the top the chamber opens to the cooling coil, this is 100mm diameter copper with 15mm copper coiled inside of it, the water enteres and exits through here. The bottom of this 100mm chamber has 2 taps, one to send the liquid back to the pot, the other to collect. I usually leave the collecting tap open until the first bit starts to dribble through, then it gets shut and the other opened to send the head straight back into the pot. Once the temp gets up the taps are switched again and collection starts.
The pot is a Keg with the top cut out and its heated by a 3 ring cast iron camping burner.
Decently simple and I was getting about 80% which I was happy with considering I'd never had a go at it before, anyway, long story short, the gas is just too expensive, and i cant be buggered getting an element as the still has some minor leaks etc, so I think this week I'll be getting a T500.

Well duh, I just realised your probably being sarcastic due to my comment on your using a plastic pitcher to catch 40-80%abv alcohol.
Oh well, to each their own. You and your friends drink it not me.
Only thing that touches my high abv alc is SS,copper,glass. (and a bit of lead free solder too I suppose)

1) The plastic fermenting barrel? Nothing wrong with plastic in <20% concentrations.

2) Plastic flake stand? Alc never comes in contact with the plastic, it\'s in the copper tube which is submerged in water.

3)Mason jars are glass.

4) Dragster body is aluminum.

5) Siding on house is plastic but that never comes in contact with alcohol unless I stagger into it. (don\'t ask)
Just what plastic are you refering to?

LOL! I had a huge pile of racing parts upstairs in the garage so I figured, hey, they\'re only young once, let\'s trade the parts for a car and he can have fun now.
(I\'m still not buying the 13 year old the 9 second rail he wants though) I said I\'ll build him a SLOW 14-15 second street car to practice with then move up as he gets experience.
I got too many hobbies!

And here\'s a shot of the dragster I bought for my 9 year old for his 10th birthday. He doesn\'t know it\'s his yet, I have so many different race cars in the garage doing work for guys it wasn\'t hard to convince him it was just \"more work I\'m doing for somebody\" hehehe

Rebuilt the rear axle and adjusted the pedals to fit, other than that I have to paint it and get new decals.

What does it have to do with making whisky......well....this is what\'s taking me away from making whisky! LOL

I started this thread on homedistiller a year or two ago. I realise most on here run an air distiller, but seeing other\'s set ups might give you an idea or stick some innovation in you.

Many ways to skin a cat, so to speak. Maybe seeing a picture might make you go \"AHA!! why didn\'t I think of that\"
So, I think mine is on here somewhere but since I\'m starting the thread, here\'s mine;
