If you have 5Lt if Spirit @ 65% and you want to dilute it to 40% the math would look like this;

65 divided by 40 = 1.625 minus 1 = .625 multiplied by 5 = 3.125 lt of water to be added giving a final volume of 8.125 lt @ 40% ;D

the volume will depend on the strength of the wash going in - this is not an exact science at this level& to be fair, 1200 mil doesn't sound far-off IMO

I tend to just chuck some water in, give it a shake and then retest it
