Supposedly the thing to avoid is leaving the wash sitting on the yeast sediment for too long as it can impart flavours into the spirit. I think this mostly applies to non-neutral spirits because in my experience it doesn\'t seem to make any difference for vodka - I left one for six months (cold over winter) and once it warmed up it finished fermenting and it was fine!
