StillSmart Home distillation made easy! 2008-12-19T01:28:31+00:00 http://www.stillsmart.co.uk/forum/feed.php?f=1&t=27 2008-12-19T01:28:31+00:00 2008-12-19T01:28:31+00:00 http://www.stillsmart.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=27&p=326#p326 <![CDATA[smartstill]]> Assuming you made 25 litres, that would give you 6 batches of 500ml at 40% so 3 litres, top it up with water to 4 litres (as water is purer than the filth you're left with in the still) and then run again, pure guesswork but if that 4 litres is 25% say then you can get 2 litres at 49% out of it and that should be a decent double-distilled vodka, especially if you run it through some carbon!
Considering it is a first attempt, and that 2 litres of vodka at higher strengths would be about 30 quid, I'd be happy with that!

The next distil I do, (same wash) I'm thinking of going for another 500mil or so seeing as I will distill it again anyway.
At a guess from as your product was 30% @900ml maybe 40% around the 4-500ml mark.

And i actually took out more than i thought i got 900 ml at 30%
Would it have been higher volume if i would have taken say 700/800 ml....

Given them figures, what volume of liquid would have given me 40%... ??

That is assuming i could have got it that high with less liquid..???
Iam doing not bad for my first batch, at least it is spirit, but not strong enough yet :)

How much did you get at 30% of the 4 liter wash?

Goot tip about the fridge though!
I was thinking maybe the temperature may be an issue its about 24-26C here at the moment in the house and a low of about 16C overnight. So maybe the heat is making it take longer? The wash barrel reads about 24oC.
About the distilled water we have a "plumbed in" water filer so I was just going to use that to dilute.

What it actually does is glue all the yeast together with the first sachet, then the second makes them fall to the bottom so it is important to follow the instructions and not stir it after they've glued together. If the worst comes to the worst, you can leave it to clear naturally or else take out 4 litres and put it in the fridge each time, that should settle it too and you can siphon off.
