Another trick is a old towel soaked in cold water and wrap your fermenter in it....evaporation does the rest.

+1

...and aim the fan at it. Think it's called a swamp cooler

Don't worry it it goes solid. Alc doesn't freeze. You will do it no harm.

I use our big frezer for all sorts. Separating - pre-fermentng, freeze soaks, Pre pressing oh and storing stuff frozen!

Its a big chest freezer which would be able to accommodate it. How long would you advise I stick it in for.

Just had a thought. I might stick a bucket of water in the chest freezer and freeze it overnight and then stick it in another fermenter and place the wash on top to cool it.

I have no access to a large fridge for cooling so I think this might be my only option.

Hydrometer reading ended on 1000. It was like this for four days without any more movement.

The last thing for you then is the two part finings.

TBH, it hasn't changed a lot at all. I was sort of expecting to be able to see down into the fermenter but it still looks like chicken broth.

Should I leave it until the end of the week or be impatient and chuck in some two part wine finings I already have.

What do ya think.
