Losing the black plastic spout

All stainless and silicone until the spirit leaves the airstill, then it's in contact with plastic. During my 2nd run with it I noticed spirit weeping down the outside of the spout so I knocked up this little thing, couple of minutes with a hacksaw.

I guessed the measurements but it fitted first go. 22mm pipe, 40mm long and the slot is 12mm wide and 20mm deep.

No plastic in contact with my spirit now.

A little coaxing gets it in and it's snug enough to stay there.

great idea!

after reading about the worries of having plastic touch the spirits i never used the black plastic spout. i just ran the airstill without it and it dripped out just fine. the flow of likker doesn't seem to come pouring out anyways to need a spout.

i like your mod tho and will make one of those for my still.

thanks to your cleverness i now have another mini project to do!

Hi there,

I saw this post before my air still arrived but the spout is already on although there is movement on it.

Does it have to be cut off or is it just a really stubbon clip to the rest of the lid (I dont want to end up breaking something trying to remove by hand what can't be removed lol!)??

If you undo the three screws you can remove the outer cover and then cut of the offending piece

I've performed this mod on my airstill and love it.
What I'm doing now is adding a 45 degree elbow with a short piece of straight.
Because my soldering skills are none existent would I be ok to use ptfe tape to seal the pipe together?

If you solder together a 10mm 90 degree elbow and 10mm pipe it fits over the original air cooled pipe and is held in place by the old spout housing, see my pic

Are the solder ring fittings ok to use?

Yes you can use solder ring fittings, these you can solder with a Brulee gun, just wire wool the pipe, slide it in, apply heat. I just prefer to use end feed fittings because I have all the gear

That's fantastic to know as where I am I can only find the solder ring fittings but I was worried there may be lead in the solder.

All pipe fitting available today should be lead free food safe unless they are very old stock

I've taken the 3 screws out and the top just comes off...



Mine has a soft rubber spout, which can't be good..can it??



I've got some bits & bobs of copper pipe, found a 10mm 90 elbow but what's the pipe in the condenser of the airstill? and will it take solder??

I just tinned the inside of the fitting and crimped it with pliers so mine is a tight fit but can be removed
