T500 Botanicals infuser

Postby Seagull » Wed Oct 05, 2016 5:02 am

Just ordered one of these for my T500 to have a go at some infusions, gins and so on.

Has anyone got one? If so, any tips?

Is this best used with the reflux column or alembic set up?

I'm thinking that if it sits in the vapour path, the column would produce a lovely clean spirit but still take on the botanical flavours?

I get a feeling this is not want you think it is.

This I believe is a false bottom for the boiler. It enables you to do essential oil extraction without scorching the botanicals.

It's not for the vapour path. Although you could modify it. With some ss threaded rod and some tin foil.

Edit: sputnik recipes will scale, so you could use them. Alembic setup will work best with previously made, good neutral spirit.

Cheers Mash.

Was thinking the legs were too short to sit in the vapour path so planned on getting some copper pipe to oik it up a bit.

Is the silver foil to place botanicals on? Assuming the mesh of the platform, or whatever it is, is not fine enough?

Copper legs would work.

Use foil to reduce the size a bit. I found when trialling the sputnik ideas, that the best results come when you get most of the stream to go through the botanicals.

The vapour seems to always take the easiest path....missing the botanicals.

Think polo mint. I would put the tin foil around the edge (minty bit) and the botanicals spread out evenly in the middle.

Try small batches first and don't be shy watering down the spirit.

The sputnik recipes will work and (big plus coming) they scale up 1:1 happy days. So double the amount of product is double the ingredients and double the spirit ez-pz.

Let me know how you get on. I did wonder if someone would try to fly a sputnik in a 500. Not quite but this is very close. 8)
