Gin Additive

Postby Phantom » Mon Jul 26, 2010 2:00 am

I\'ve tried about 3 different labelled \"prestige\" brand ones and enjoyed them all. The one I make the most is the Still Spirits \"Classic\" range one - that makes 2.25 litres total.
I\'ve got a batch of that going at the moment for drinking with either tonic or as Martini\'s....
I\'m no expert, gin tastes like gin to me, but a friend who I used to work with said that he particularly enjoyed both the SS classic one and the Prestige Bombay one......
regards
P!

alright im incredibly bias when it comes to gin as its my fav drink, but must make sure its the best wash and best still you have as gin will EMPHASISE any of the impurities and it taste shocking otherwise. ie wash triple distill yeast and low sugar content.

but you must try the Essencia Blue Sapphire Gin errr link [url=http://www.onestopbarshop.com.au/product_info.php?products_id=1561]
Tastes like Bombay Sapphire, I am addicted to it, it will rock your socks off ..... but let it age AT LEAST a week, makes a HUGE difference. but if you want the gordons style try the SS Classic Gin better than the essencia

Gin Additive

Postby Ronbo » Mon Jul 26, 2010 7:35 pm

What I did about 3 months ago was to make a little essence still out of a \'Chicken Tonight\' jar with a piece of copper tube soldered to the lid. This was then connected to a longer length of copper tube which runs from the hob to the sink.

The jar is placed in a pan of water (with a weight to hold it secure)

The jar was filled with some tails which were not to smelly and I added crushed juniper berries plus corriander, cardamon and lemon peel.

The hob was turned on and the tails boiled off and carried the distinctive gin flavour into the receiver. This was pretty successful -- but you could experiment for ever with different recipes and quantities.

Ciao.

Gin Additive

I got this one off one of the forums and I fancy giving it a go.
\"I use juniper berries by simmering them in 50% vodka for ten minutes (with the lid on), then letting it cool overnight on it\'s own. The next day I filter this mess through a couple of coffee filters to get a homemade (and better quality) gin essence. I use about 35 grams of juniper berries (crushed) and 350ml of vodka - 5ml (one teaspoon) will turn a bottle of vodka into a light flavored gin. 10ml make a more traditional, strong flavored gin. You can add other spices like cardamom, coriander, and lemon peel (about one gram of each) for a more complex flavor in your gin. Using 10ml makes a straw yellow colored drink.\"

Thank you all for your input.
freelancement, the gin is for my friends as I don\'t drink it.

At the moment I\'ve been giving them the Essencia London special gin
How many litres will the Blue sapphire gin essence make as the above makes 5 litres of gin.

mmm didnt realise the london special was 5 litres, been a while since i made it, but yeah that was the one which i was told to leave for the 3 months, possibly why. But I dont think its too critical with the blue sapphire, like mine doesnt last more than a couple of months, so i cant say how much it improves but it tastes pretty fine haha
\"Essencia Blue Sapphire Gin makes 2250ml mixed with 40% high quality alco, age for min of 7 days\" .... i guess less is more

I know the SS Classic Gin and SS Top shelf London Dry makes 2250ml aswell as, altho the original range which i hear is not in the UK makes 5 litres .... STAY WAY CLEAR OF IT. haha

All my Gin drinking friends love my Essencia Blue Saphire. They all claim it\'s as good as anything they can buy off the shelf.

OK not bad but it looks to me that the images should be restricted to 640 x 480.

The Photobucket web site seems easy to use.
