low ph

hi fellow distillers just a quicky what do i add too a low ph its 3.4? its a tp and bakers yeast wash thats taken 2weeks to get to 1050 so far?

anyone? iv added baking powder 1tb but it aint done nothing?

You want Baking Soda (bicarbonate of soda), not Baking Powder, see the difference here

I would mix 1 teaspoon with water to dissolve it, then pour it in and stand back!!! lots of impressive bubbles, but can overflow your fermenter so add it slowly.

then check your PH and add more if needed

It sounds like the TP recipe may not suit your local water conditions. My water supply has very little limescale (Calcium Carbonate) and I can't get the TP recipe to ferment out because the pH takes a dive before the yeast can do it's job. This is because Tomatoes are naturally acidic plus manufacturers routinely add Citric Acid to Tomato Puree/Paste

Check your local water supply or just look in your kitchen kettle. If there's no limescale in it and you don't have to use a regular de-scaler, the chances are the TP recipe won't suit your water.

You can always try the Lentil recipe it works brill in low limescale water

Not necessarily. Baking Powder contains an amount of Sodium Bicarb but also contains acidifying agents which you don't want. That should make a difference

aidanmac i started your lentil wash recipe friday evening and its going great guns thanks for putting it on my tp wash has nearly finished to its been 3 weeks tho and still not there but getting close
