I have for a couple of years used this instead of Allinsons.

Probably a bit cheaper too - typically £5/500g so 50p a wash!

I have a Lentil and a wheat wash both going strong on it !

I came across the same stuff a few months ago in an Asian Market I shop in for spices and decided to give it a try. I bought 2 blocks but haven't tried it yet. Glad to hear it works so well.

I'll be pitching a 45lt lentil wash at the weekend and I'll give the Fermipan a shot.

I am not seeing your maths Mashy.
Allinson's is 77p for 125 g in my local Tesco,£6.16/Kilo.
I am not saying Fermipan may not be better,but is certainly more expensive.

Last time I saw Allinsons it was about £1.50 - didn't know Tescos did it for that.

I also like the fact Fermipan is a Lallemand product. Who makes Allinsons?

It seems it is AB Mauri - makes sense they are worldwide producers of fresh/dried and slant yeasts. Might have a look and see if they do brewing yeasties..

Like many things which appear simple at first glance, reality appears somewhat more complicated.
'Allinson' is a brand name owned by Allied Bakeries, in turn owned by Associated British Foods.

Not to be confused (sic) with Allinson Flour, a separate company, which give, the impression of a 'smallish', high quality, craft bakers.

As a brand, Allinson Flour is strongly marketed by

However, it owned by Sliverspoon, of beet sugar fame, which, in turn is I believe, totally owned British Sugar plc, in turn, totally owned by by the multi-million, multi-national conglomerate, Associated British Foods.

So, in short, Allinson Bread is not associated commercially with Allinson yeast.
Allinson Yeast is simply a a brand name owned by the same multi=national conglomerate as Allied Bakers.

So we've come full circle.
