Might explain why my run yesterday was 200 proof, damn it I thought I did good. Lol
Don't yell at me because I'm a virgin distiller

I have never had a hydrometer crack and have moisture inside. They are temperamental and break easily. Buy them several at a time. Not good to have the only one of something break in the middle of a run.

What about hydrometers for measuring specific gravity. They are different. The Japs make a good floating dairy thermometer which I prefer when checking the wash. Keeps your hands free.
What about running your boiler on gas. You have much better heat control. A spirit run requires very little heat once it is up to temp. Fire is a consideration though.

You've answered your own point. The actual device is the same but as its calibrated completely differently, with different scaling you can't just use one calibrated/scaled for gravity.
Of course, the device being basically the same, there'd be no reason not to check whether its possible i.e. whether there's enough similarity in the weighting to check whether you'd get a reading from a test of spirit of known strength or whether a gravity one has too much or too little weight inside. I've never bothered to check myself.....

Thanks Phantom but you missed my point. I was asking Ed if he had that equipment. Didn't mean to confuse anyone.
