I think this is the real reason for the Ryanair fiasco.

Sad to see them go.
I just got back from Portugal having flown with Ryanair......we were worried for a couple of days but it turned out no flights were cancelled from or to Bristol in the end.

There must be a large number of pilots recently employed by Monarch now looking for new jobs.. Shouldn't someone let Ryanair know?!

Cheers

With a supposed world shortage of commercial pilots, I don't think many Monarch ex-employees will choose to work for Ryanair?

Absolutely.

But for Ryanair, if you compare the cost & time required to train pilots and cost of pissing off a few customers. Cancelling a few flights until a glut of pilots comes round..... And one of your competitors has disappeared.

Just a thought.

I am sure that you didn't always appear so cynical Mash.

Not so much cynical, but just know they chase the money.

Don't ask me how I know these things :)

Thousands of foreign pilots working in Asia, particularly China where they can pull US$25,000 per month, plus good benefits. And most of them are a wineing bunch of pricks. Not all, but most.

A quick cut and paste from the web.
Typically a pilot is not permitted to fly more than 1,000 hours in a year, 125 hours in a month and 30 hours in a week. However, pilots are required to report at despatch about 60 to 90 minutes before departure. They must necessarily get at least one day off after seven consecutive days of duty.
Not quite the 39 hour week of your average tube train driver.
And one gets to wear RayBans while flying above the clouds.
Not taking sides here.
Both peoples have lives in their hands.
Best of luck to them all.
I want them to make my travel safe.

Robert.

And that was an awful joke gaza....
