Vodka Tasting 'Turpsy' after a couple of months
Hi Everyone First of All Merry Christmas & a Happy & Healthy 2017 to All and Seasons Greetings from Perth WA.
I have been making neutral Spirit using my Pure Distilling Home Spirit Maker for around 5 yrs now and have always been doing the TPW Recipe from this recipe forum right from the start of my journey in this wonderful hobby.I have used this recipe as is and have not made any changes but as of of late my Vodka has been getting an off Taste after being bottled for a couple of months or so.
Any suggestions from all you far more learned folk here as to what may be causing this would be greatly appreciated. I have always been meticulous in the cleaning & Sterilizing of my Kit bottles and other equipment etc so this is a puzzle.
Thanks In Advance and keep up the great work you do here
Cheers

I think the silence so far indicates no one has any useful idea what could cause this one, it's certainly not one I've ever heard of before, the only thought I've had since I spotted it yesterday is the possibility of something like some kind of plastic coming into contact with the spirit, a plastic bottle being used for storage for example.
Can't think of anything else.

I am scratching my head also here.
The best that I can offer is that some of the screw top bottles that I reuse tend to degrade around the caps, they seem to wear away leaving detritus on the bottle neck.
I can't see that leading to a Turpsy taste though.
Robert.

Thanks Very much for the input I really appreciate it..... I will look at the screw cap theory and replace all that I have with new and see if that changes things

Maybe something about how you've done the cuts ? is all I can think of
Or maybe do a side by side with the TPW and a turbo sugar wash ?

What water did you use for the final dilution ?
Always give the hardest job to the laziest person because they will always find the easiest way to do it.

Have you tried letting the vodka air or re-distilling it?
Do you make cuts by known amounts from experience (in which case maybe you need a new seal or to clean out the still fan etc) or by smell and taste?
