Re: What I Did Today
Well, yesterday actually, so does it fit here?
Have been using a king sized easy-syphon to empty my boiler, but a year or so back got a little carried away and pumped it out when still too warm. So it went all curly on me and even with my best attempts with a heat gun was still decidedly second-hand but usable. Just. Been meaning to pick something else up, but out of sight out of mind kind of applied.
Ran a rum wash last Friday so yesterday was the day to empty the boiler.....Finally gathered all the bits (crap that's lying around in the shed) that looked right and manufactured myself a brand new home build easy-syphon.
Actually works as intended and is bullet proof heat wise.

What is an easy siphon - do you mean the orange bulb thing with a knob on top?

Re: What I Did Today
No Mashy.
It's a tube of maybe 25mm dia that has a one-way valve at the business end, with another tube of maybe 10mm dia inside it with a washer at its business end. And a hose off the top.
Drop the suitably sterilised business end into what ever you wish to transfer, couple of pumps and sit back with a coldie. Job done.
Actually I think if you went on to a HBS site and input easy syphon (siphon) you'd find it.

P,sometimes you surprise me.

You can vary spices,I suggest that you use a cloudy Apple juice, not from concentrate,Lidl do/did a good one.
Watch out for the sugars, unless you have a sweet tooth.
Robert.

Re: What I Did Today
I am seeing your point RJ,but in a country where "Scrumpy" type (Cloudy) ciders are considered the real deal,,a cloudy Apple Pie seems to work.
@ Ice,yes, get in early and get some bottled.Get the balance of Cloves and Cinnamon right, and this is a cracking drink to have on hand for a British winter.
It works as gifts or glugs (which are also gifts)!

Re: What I Did Today
I did a slow spirit (potstill) run of my medium peated AG.
This was stripped (yesterday) with the deliberate intention of collecting a small amount of 'puke' amongst the lowwines. That is, my strips were run very fast and ended up slightly opaque.
Anyone got experience with doing this? Todays run smelt like a peat run should (ie like shite
) but I cant be sure if this will result in the addition of any flavour profile to the matured/oaked spirit for a while yet, of course.
