Up and running

Postby Brewhunter » Sun Oct 30, 2016 10:20 pm

So I've just finished my first stripping run on the T500
23 litres produced approx 3.5 litres at 85% running the still at 65*c for 3 hours.
Was a bit daunting to begin with but soon got the hang of it ;D

:) The T500 is a great bit of kit. I predict you will have a lot of fun with it

With your strip run just use a DJ.
Rather have a full bottle in front of me

Yes that's what I did, I was referring to the spirit run
How many jars would I need do you think I'd need?

Assuming that you are spirit running on the T500, collect and number maybe 6 100 ml jars of what may be heads, after throwing/stowing 50ml of "fores"/higher alcohols.
The rest I would run or combine into a dj if short of glassware, for the next couple of litres, before switching back to smaller collected quantities.
The middle of your spirit run is the biggest part and requires the least attention at that stage.
Make your cuts a day or so later, when your heart rate has slowed, and all is more serene. ;)

Hi Brewhunter.
If you have one strip run and it was
about 14% @25ltrs. You will have about
3.5 ltrs of strip @ 86-90%.
If you have TWO like this =7ltrs
diluted to 30%= 21ltrs ish.
Therefore you have about 7.5 ltrs
@ 90% in the boiler.
Think my sums are right or pretty
close.

Thanks lads, just finishing the second strip run now
Managed to get two more 23 litre washes started with the waste hot water.. Recycle recycle ;)
Also stripped some crap wine in the airstill at the same time, looking forward to seeing the difference in the end product (airstill vs T500)

Cool
Two stills at once, that takes
some concentration.

It is OK until the refreshment level catches up with you.
Been there and done it.
I can usually keep a TV type thing and some inter webby stuff happening while I still.
Two stills tends to lead switching off the TV. :D
