Apple Pie remains my biggest mover by far. It is not limited to a ladies drink, although very popular with them.

I make mine to be ~18% abv.

Into 1 litre bottle:

Cinnamon stick

2 capfuls of vanilla essence/flavour

200ml of 9x% abv ie. undiluted hearts

Top up to 1L with apple juice. I prefer the unfiltered apple juice from Aldi.

Haven't heard a single negative about it from anybody, apart from it sneaking up on you. :)

Still the biggest mover. I am getting tired of making it.

Made some of this to take to a party. Naturally I had to test it first - unfortunately there is no longer sufficient to take with me! So, I have just made a second batch which will hopefully last.

Made some slight changes to the OP Recipe.

800ml Pure Apple Juice (the stuff I used was not from concentrate)
1 Cinnamon Stick
1 Star Anise
2 Cloves
Rind from 1 Lemon
100g Brown Sugar

Brought this to the boil and then let simmer until it had reduced to about 300ml.

Poured through a sieve to remove the bits of apple (the juice was the cloudy kind) and topped up to a litre with 40% Neutral.

That's all well and good but what did it taste like?

Haven't tasted the final product yet, but the syrup tasted like Christmas. Should be yummy :-)

Just done the recipe again posted on the first page of this topic, but instead of my usual neutral I used some 18 month old corn whiskey (59% ABV), from a sugar head using the spent grain from an AG ferment - so it was very flavorsome.

Both the missus and I agree that the corn adds enough sweetness and I wont be adding any sugar. If on a second taste it needs sweetening I'll add a little apple juice.

I still cannot believe some of the amounts of sugar quoted from some of the American recipes you see on some of the forums, it must be like drinking syrup :D

I must confess that my last batch was an epic failure. I did not pay attention when I was buying the apple juice and ended up with reconstituted sweetened stuff. The result was unpalatable.

I will have another go this weekend and be more carefull.

Not to sure about the star aniseed though, never put that in an apple pie?

My mum used to put fennel in her apple pie which is one of the reasons I put the star anise in. The flavour is very subtle.

With my batch I think I've managed to eek out a little more booze or at least some flavour, Apple pie is great but you do lose a load of booze to the process as the fruit soaks up quite a lot.

So I macerated the apples in 59% aged corn whiskey (59% only because that's what it was sitting at when I took it off the wood). No sugar as it makes the filtering easier, and you can sweeten it later with sugar syrup if you like.
I left it for a month, then filtered.

Next I refill the jar with still cider and leave for a few days, then filter that.

I then use some of the cider to let down the spirit maceration, and bottle the rest for drinking.

I wasn't hugely taken with the still cider on its own, but the stuff that comes off the fruit is fantastic, a nice wee bonus.

Just a quick one, what do you drink this with? Does it mix with anything or do just drink it straight?

Just started my first go at this, used

1 litre Aldi Cloudy Apple Jucie
150g brown sugar
2 cinnamon sticks
Handful of Currants (no raisins available)
2 single serving honey pots (stollen from a hotel breakfast)

Boiled it for 10mins and now cooling, all my neutral is already 40% and filtered, will pour a couple of litres on it once cooled and strained, smells great, can't wait :-)

I finally got around to making this myself last week.
1/2 a cinnamon stick, handfull of Sultanas and a single clove,3 litres of Lidls' finest Apple juice, simmered down to around 2.25litres.]
Cut with a similar quantity of filtererd neutral @45%.
The Barstewards that have tasted it proclaim it the finest thing that I have produced.
Boy does that piss me off.it is the simplest drink i have ever made.
Anavarin, yarp,I suggest diluting with more Apple juice.
