Australian Spring

There has been a storm in Australian distilling forums of late and there seems to be a movement of personalities around the ether. Many of those on the move are genuine distillers. However, some of them are undesirables with questionable motives while more are overtly and/or covertly commercial with some of them using assumed names to hide their known online identity.

I even saw one undesirable (my personal opinion), under a new name, welcome his old persona as a new member on a rival forum - devious or what?

A few immigrants have already landed on our shores and those genuinely interested in talking distilling are genuinely very welcome.

Can I just point out one thing. Many of us here did join other forums in the US, AUS and NZ in particular. Not as an alternative to our home here but to simply broaden our horizons by meeting and interacting with like minds on other continents. ;)

Many of us who did venture out there encountered personalities and attitudes that spoke "friend" but stuck the knife in at every opportunity. I, for one, tried to fit in and adapt to the local conditions and customs on those forums but was rounded on by mods and admins for simply voicing an opinion that didn't exactly fit with the "leadership". ::)

Subsequently, many of us simply adopted a silent membership where we read but rarely speak.

My purpose here is to welcome those seeking an alternative distilling forum but to point out that this is not a US or AUS or NZ forum. Customs and attitudes are more on the quiet side of life and we tend to be a little more soft spoken. ;)

Well put, it amazes me how some of the members of different forums can be so childlike. I for one am here to learn an awesome hobby from the most knowledgeable people out there. I don't care about anything else so I stay out of the playground and all the drama. Cheers:-)

Hi FS. I am very sorry to see you of all people stuck into this. I just can't see this ending well. It is a great loss for us all. If this gets tried again, I think we need to have it not setup or moderated by anyone with a commercial interest (or a drinking problem). Testosterone and alcohol is just never a good combination.

I'm forum neutral, I'm happy to play nice wherever I visit.
If I don't like a topic I don't post in it.
If I don't like the way a forum is going, I just stop visiting.

I don't really see the point in digging up problems on other forums, and potentially causing any bad feeling for those who still play there.

Remember Aiden, we have have issues with a drunk mod deleting your account ;D We all have little rough patches to work through.

I'm guessing I've missed the fun+games on my week away.

I'm a "silent" member on many distilling forums, but only active here because of the friendly, drama free nature. Long may it remain. :)

It's also nice to see several new members here recently. Always good to have friendly experienced + also new distillers to bounce ideas off of.

I have not forgotten either but that was one incident in all my time on this forum and my purpose here was different.

I have no interest in raking over the problems of others but nor do I want to see the causes turn up on our doorstep.

We have some fine distillers here from other continents but as a result of recent events elsewhere, which some members here may not be aware of, there are some undesirables on the move and I don't want our nice little forum inFestered by their kind of Punks. ;D

Others may take a different view but that's mine ;)

This topic appears to have been accidentally locked and the moderator logs indicate that I was the one who locked it, at precisely the same time I made my last post to it ::)

I can only assume I accidentally touched the "Lock Topic" button below under "Options" last evening! :o

It is unlocked now and I apologise for any confusion this may have caused as it was completely unintentional - I hadn't even had a drink for gods sake ::)

Subtle as a left hook AM. ;D
I came here to seek refuge from those that vexed me.
It's my last outpost.

Sorry about the left hook Scarecrow :-\ it certainly wasn't aimed at any respected distillers like your good self. In fact it wasn't aimed at anyone in particular at all. ;D

However, I'm sure you know the troubled souls that constantly seemed to feel the need to rattle the cages over on MD but have now abandoned that home. Not to mention some of MD's newer additions who have a less than chequered history in terms of respectful forum activity in their past!

I would be wary of those troubled souls, et al, turning up in our house. We had a single hiccup here in the past and I don't think anyone enjoyed the experience. ::)

This should not be interpreted as xenophobic in any way.

I know there are good people who have just walked away from MD out of pure frustration and they are very welcome to join us here, if they want to, but I won't be behind the door in saying I don't want the trouble makers who caused the whole mess over there to come here and many of us know who they are.

Hopefully this will end any misunderstanding or misinterpretation of my original post on this issue.

No worries AM. I think it is pretty well understood where you stand on this matter. ;D

A bit of open honest communication never hurt anyone. ;)

I'm trying to learn and don't need some a$%&hole giving me abuse because I ask the odd stupid question here and there! There are a substantial newbie's who have joined after me who will be in the same boat.

Everyone has to learn and the information given out on this forum is of quality and in a friendly manner.

;D ;D

+1 AidanMac......(although, mate, its Autumn here now ;) )

IMHO, the simplest way to avoid the vast majority of 'troubles' (as per certain other forums) is to avoid all forms of commercial interest/placement/dogma in forum discussions.
This forum does that consistently and admirably...and long may it continue to do so.
