Found a cheaper price per 250 ml jar @ 2.99 still a lot to pay out
It will work out to about 8.00 $ per litre,, SWMBO might have a few words to say on that , but I will grab a few jars here and there till i have enough

I have not been able to buy in bulk here - except for some that was a bit nasty. Try calling a hotel or candy maker or someone who might use golden syrup in bulk. Aparently it is available in New zealand in bulk.

I can buy 28 kg buckets here for just under $2 nz a kilo. I can't believe that it wouldn't be cheaper from a bulk or bakers supply store anywhere else in the world with a big population. NZ is the home of a lot of good things but cheap manufactured goods is usually not one of them.

I emailed Chelsea yesterday asking if they had any distributers here.

I think the Lyle's Syrup is in the imported foods section, so we will not get bulk quantities here in Canada,, so I will have to grab a jar on teach visit,,
looking forward to giving this recipe a go,,

So I'm wondering if I'd get the same result using T&L syrup but just using my air still ? The T500 would strip out any flavour cross over so at the moment its all I could try.....

I was thinking that Lyle's Syrup is made from cane so why can't cane sugar be used and get the same result?
Or is it the taste we are searching for?

If you can run the T500 without packing and with no reflux I would use that as I think the boiler is a higher capacity than the Airstill. Low capacity stills have a short range of heart material which will affect the end result.

Golden syrup is not as processed and refined as sugar so you can get away with using it - kind of. Using cane sugar will give you a rum if distilled right. America classifies cachaca as a rum. Brazil says not. Cachaca is made from fermented sugar cane juice whereas rum is made from the byproducts of sugar production.

Listening to a dude on the radio who knows a fair bit about cocktails and spirits and he reckoned Cachaca is the second most consumed spirit in the world after Vodka. My plans for dancing the Cachaca after Christmas got derailed by 200 litres of plums. I shall return !

Bloomin heck. You live and you learn. So I guess that's a big second place for rice based alcohol. Funny how things aren't quite how you suppose them to be.
