What was that thing "en vogue" a little while back?
Could have been Homeopathy,or some such.
Smaller volumes/concentrations maybe doing more?

As I said, One size does not always fit all.

Robert.

The original photo came from an Australian distiller site where someone had taken the time to calculate the oak to rum ratio. The proof as always is in the pudding. I'm not waiting years for the effect. Here's the colour of mine after a month with that ratio and the taste change is definitely what I want.

Remember as per RJs recipe this is a light oak

I see (literally!) your point. That is a very light oaking, probably much higher than what Robert and I are used to doing. Certainly much lighter than a Bourbon or dark rum.

£10.50 for 7.3KG

This info needs to put somewhere as a sticky...it's only going back a couple of pages on this thread that I remember seeing it from the first time.

As you said Robert an order of three only incurs a delivery charge of £4.99.

If any of you have a makro nearby they also stock these, they are a little more expensive but if you can walk in & take it home then it would save the delivery fee & balances out somewhere down the line

Benoits post, http://www.cateringsupplier.co.uk/shop/ ... u01910.htm is still the cheapest for the committed.

But the more I read on this thread about T&L GS production, and how it is down to "refining" of sugars,to the molecular level, the more I wonder at RJ's use of it for Cachaca.

I guess it is the closest he can get to sugar cane sugar, year round, and has found it an acceptable work around.

But no, it is obviously not cane syrup in a can.
It is a heavily refined product, as T&L are proud to state.
And coming also from beet sugar...

Robert.

I'm of the same thoughts...I've gone round in circles with the G.syrup....and given up on it for now unless I dig something up.

Do we take it that using GS as Rum John does....makes a passable Cachaca??? or is it a drink on it's own. Using GS for the wash is just another type of sugar wash then?? or am I wrong on this point???

My head hurts... :D :D

How close RJ's version of GS Cachaca, as posted here, is to real sugar cane version, I have no idea.
But they have to be different drinks.
Having made it, to his recipe, I can only say it is good.
I guess the jury are out ?

#1..I suppose the only way would be to buy a bottle of Cachaca and put it to a taste test??.

#2..????? don't know..different in what way? we will have to find out.

#3..I'm so relieved to read that sentence Robert..having just bought 22 kg of syrup. :D

#4..I guess your correct there...maybe it's time to sort it??

Oh it is what it is. Or I yam what I yam as Popeye used to say... I never thought for a moment that golden syrup could ever be the same as sugar cane juice. I calls it Golden Syrup Rum which I'm happy with I also calls it mmm and tasty.

Great thread... 8) Tempted to scale it down to 30L.
Without reading all the posts may I ask how you got the colour on the finished rum? Is it colouring or down to the oak cask?

Just a quick question...no addition of carbon and no clearing needed?
Very much anticipating the tasting of this recipe as my wife and I are lovers of cachaca.
