Needle valves for 2" Boka
I'm planning on making a boka 2" and am unsure of what size needle valve would be suitable.
Would this 1/8 BSP jobby on ebay be suitable for product take off and perhaps condensor control? The are very cheap.

The clever people only recommend Stainless or Brass, I cannot remember seeing any reference to the suitability of Nickel.
The other area that needs looking at is, what the seals and seats are made of? I cannot see any reference to them on this item.

Eighth of an inch is on the small side for either condenser or take off. 1/4" would be more suitable imo.
1/4 inch is great for using with 6mm tube which is good for winding a coil
The valve material doesn't matter for the condenser control, but I would only use brass* or stainless for the product side.
* brass for use in potable water can no longer contain lead, so is fine for our application.

Re: Needle valves for 2" Boka
Cheers Fellas,
I wondered if the 1/8 size was a bit small. Ok I'll go for 1/4 instead.
How would I know if the valve seat/ seal material is suitable for use product?
What am I looking for?
Thanks

silicon or ptfe seals are both fine. There is usually a datasheet on a vendors website.

Re: Needle valves for 2" Boka
Be careful when you are thinking about BSP sizes.
The size number was originally based on the inner diameter measured in inches of a steel tube for which the thread was intended, but contemporary pipes tend to use thinner walls to save material, and thus have an inner diameter larger than this nominal size. In the modern metric version of the standard, it is simply a size number.
1/8 BSP is the equivalent of something between 8 and 10 mm (outside)diameter copper or stainless tube. And 1/4" BSP is nearer 1/2” copper pipe.
If you want the exact sizes click this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Standard_Pipe
If you were to use a valve like these then you would also need to find some form of connector to make the transition to your pipe. These connectors will probably cost you a lot more more than the valve.
Keep a look out for valves with compression type fittings they may be cheaper in the long run. (or make your own- you know it makes sense)

6mm compression fitting needle valves at £3 each

Having read around reguarding Nickel plated brass it seems Good to use. Nickel is corrosion resistant to Alc.
