I’m looking for some help finding a reasonably inexpensive form of column packing for my 67mm boka.
I bought some spontex stainless scrubbers but they’re A) magnetic, B) leave a grey residue on your hands after you handle them and C) when I look at the packaging it says they’re made from recycled stainless steel. I’ve tried boiling them and cleaning them with washing up liquid and still the grey residue remains so I’m not at all confident using them.
I’ve got some wilko scrubbers here too but they’re also magnetic but don’t leave any residue.
Can anyone recommend a brand they’ve had success with or a different packing option that’s not expensive?

Lidl and Aldi scrubbers seem to work for me.
That sounds so wrong.

I'll go with gaza's suggestion. I also prefer copper mesh, though I've a few bits in the pipeline so will be looking for some SPP in the near future.........

I have a big roll of copper mesh - readily available as a insect or rodent mesh. However I tend to use it as a catalyst and not as a packing.

I never had an issue with the spontex stainless scrubbers and used them for years.
I would boil them with washing up liquid to get rid of the cutting oil and then put them in the dishwasher on a 70 degree wash.

Never had a problem after that - but perhaps the new ones are not the same. Don't know.

I currently use pumice (lava rock) gravel as a packing but it is just to try something different. The stainless scrubbers are very good.

Restaurant grade SS. Get them from a supplier or a local restaurant. Much better than home grade.

It took me a few purchases to find a good SS scrubbie to use.
Magnetism is no clue, basic stainless steel is 'Ferritic' and so magnetic.
It is what else is added that makes different grades of SS.
Some remain magnetic.
Myles advice on cleaning it is good.
